Canora Saskatchewan Wildlife Foundation branch holds annual antler measuring day

The Canora branch of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Foundation (SWF) measured 10 pairs of antlers during its annual antler measuring day.

SWF members brought in eight sets of white-tailed deer antlers and two sets of moose antlers to be measured on December 4 at the clubhouse. Steven Wyonzek, the Canora SWF president, measured the antlers with assistance from Larry Tiechko. Scores on each set of antlers were tabulated by Ernie Kozak and Keith Ostafie, but the scores will not be revealed until an awards ceremony, Wyonzek said.

“The deer were slower this year, and due to the low temperatures we didn’t see many about,” Wyonzek said.

Hunters were persistent, however, and the number of antlers that were presented was about on par with last year.
