Teams playing in the Canora Minor Hockey League continue to see action in a few more games played before the league takes a holiday break.

On December 11, a home game was played for the Canora Atom Red Cobras at the Canora Civic Centre. The team played against the Yorkton Richardson Terriers in a “close back-and-forth game,” said Tracey Bletsky, the team manager.

The Cobras held onto their lead throughout the game, with a score of 3-1 at the end of the first period, 5-3 at the end of the second and 7-6 at the end of the third. The Canora Cobras received one penalty while the Terriers received four.

Nate Wolos scored four goals including the game-winning goal. Other goals were made by Rhett Ludba, Connor Kraynick and Rylan Bletsky. Assists were by Rhett Ludba (three) and Connor Kraynick.

The game was close at the end of the third period, Tracey said, causing the coaches to have to call a time out with only 10.8 seconds remaining. Increasing the number of defensive players proved to be enough to hold down the one-goal lead.

Also on December 11, the Canora Novice Red team played a game against the Cote Novice Chiefs at Cote Memorial Arena. The team managed to beat Cote 18-7.

Goals were made by Jack Korpusik (four), Jhett Kelly (four), Ayden Lukey (three), Colton Bletsky, Cayden Kelly (two), Westin Lindgren, Kale Strellioff and Cale Smith (two). Assists were by Kaelyn Shukin, Ayden Lukey (two), Kale Strellioff (two), Cale Smith (two), Cayden Kelly and Natalia Kelly.

The Canora Atom Red Cobras next played a game in Preeceville on Decwmbwe 13 against the Preeceville Atom Pats.  Preeceville defeated Canora 13-2.

At the end of the first period it was 4-1 with Nate Wolos scoring the team’s first goal. He was assisted by Connor Kraynick and Cooper Kraynick. At the end of the second period the score was set at 10-2 with Rhett Ludba scoring and Rylan Bletsky assisting. The third period continued on to end with a score of 13-2. Each team incurred one penalty for minor tripping.

“This was a fast paced game but the Canora Red Cobras kept up right to the end of the game,” Tracey said, adding that the Preeceville Atom Pats are currently undefeated.

The Red Cobras are sitting with two wins and five losses, but the team has three more games to play in the first round of the league.

“The players are continually developing and showing their strengths each game,” said Tracey.

The Canora Atom Black Cobras also played a game last week at the Canora Civic Centre, where they defeated the Cote Atom Chiefs 18-3.

Goals were made by Taye Shukin (seven), Briel Beblow (five), Chase Hembling (two), Logan Sznerch and Ty Sleeva (three). Assists were by Chase Hembling (two), Kade Rubletz, Brody Gulka (two) and Taye Shukin.

Games to be played at the Canora Civic Centre over the weekend were Canora Peewee Cobras versus Yorkton Days Inn and Suites Peewee Terriers, December 16; Canora Atom Cobras Red versus Kamsack Atom Flyers, December 17; Canora Atom Cobras Black versus Preeceville Atom Pats, December 17, and Canora Atom Cobras Black versus Kamsack Atom Flyers, December 18.
