The Canora Veselka Ukrainian Dance Club competed at the 30th annual Prince Albert Barveenok Ukrainian Dance competition on April 22 and 23, said Amanda Zbitniff, president.
The Canora novice group did not participate in Prince Albert, but the junior, intermediate and senior groups had a successful weekend.
The Junior 1 Mixed group won a bronze medal in the Poltava with a score of 82, and a gold medal in the Character Dance with a score of 90.
The Junior 2 Mixed group took home a silver medal with a score of 89 in the Poltava, and a second silver medal in the Polissia with a score of 88.
The Intermediate 1 Mixed group was awarded a score of 89 in the Poltava, good enough for a silver medal. The group then scored 91 in the Bukovynian, which won the gold medal.
The Intermediate 2 Mixed group picked up a silver medal in the Hutzul with a score of 89. The group also won a gold medal and a $100 scholarship for a score of 91 in the Volyn, and a second gold medal in the Poltava for a score of 90, along with a $125 scholarship.
The senior girls group managed a score of 89 in the Gypsy, good enough for a silver medal. From there on it was all gold medals. A score of 90 earned the group gold in the Poltava, 91 won gold in the Volyn, 92 was golden in the Transcarpathian, and 93 won the group a fourth gold medal in the Bukovynian, along with a $100 scholarship.
Members of the Junior 1 Mixed group are: Danielle Dutchak, Reein Godhe, Heidi Mentanko, Joshua Prychak, Rhianna Stefanyshyn, Liam Trask, Jordan Zbitniff and Victoria Zbitniff.
The members of the Junior 2 Mixed group are: Addison Burym, Henry Craig, Jordan Makowsky, Cambrie Ostafie, Brenna Reine, Linden Roebuck, Gasper Thomas, Meekah Unick, Cody Vangen and Irena Yannoulis.
Dancers in the Intermediate 1 Mixed group are: Jayden Burym, Jack Craig, Makayla Heshka, Jenna Korol, Tyson Korol, Matthew Makowsky, Noah Prychak, Alaina Roebuck, Methyl Trask and Sofia Tratch.
Members of the Intermediate 2 Mixed group are: Cassandra Danyluk, Drea Beblow, Mathew Dmitruik, Jacob Gulka, Brooklyn Korol, Larissa Makowsky, Brayden Ostafie, Carson Ostafie, Emily Owchar, Megan Scherban and Jake Statchuk.
The members of the senior girls group are: Emma Eiteneier, Abby Gulka, Courtney Ostafie, Abbey Sakal, Carmen Stusek, Kelsey Chupa, Jill Gulka, Mackenzie Gulka, Jasmine Knihniski, Jordelle Lewchuk, Carley Ostafie, Dekea Ryczak and Ashley Stusek.
Zbitniff said the next competition for the Canora Veselka Ukrainian Dance club is coming up in Yorkton, where they are scheduled to compete from May 5 to 7. On this occasion the novice group will be taking part; along with the junior, intermediate and senior groups.
