The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 75 calls during the week of May 27 to June 3, some of which included: one traffic accident, 36 provincial traffic offences, four provincial statutes, three harassments/threats, two mischiefs, two thefts, and seven other incidents.
Canora disturbance
On May 27, Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to a disturbance in Canora. Police investigated the matter and assault charges were laid against two individuals involved in the complaint.
Purse found
A purse was found in King George Park on May 28 with no identification inside of it. The purse was brought to Canora Detachment as a lost and found item. If anyone has lost a purse, please call or stop in at the Detachment and provide a description of the purse and the contents inside.
Found iPhone
An iPhone was found in the ditch on Highway No. 5 east of Canora on May 28. The phone was brought to Canora Detachment as a lost and found item. If anyone has lost this phone, please call or stop in at the Detachment and provide a description of the phone.
Loud music
On May 29, Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to a noise complaint in the town of Canora. The homeowner was spoken to and warned about the loud music.
Narrow escape for puppy
A six-week-old puppy sleeping in a kennel was stolen on May 30 from outside a residence in the village of Rama. The kennel was placed on the railway tracks and was subsequently struck by a train. CN Rail employees found the puppy and were able to locate the dog’s owner who rushed the dog to a local Veterinary Clinic. The dog suffered serious injuries but survived the collision and is now back home with her family. Canora RCMP continue to investigate this incident with the assistance of the CN Police. Found dog
Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a request to assist a member of the public with a found dog in Canora on May 29. If you have concerns about a found or missing animal, you can reach out via social media on the Homeless, Lost & Found animals Canora and area Facebook page or take the animal to the Yorkton SPCA. The Yorkton SPCA can be contacted at 306-783-4080.
Counterfeit cash
On May 31, Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a report of counterfeit money being used at a local business in Preeceville. Police investigated the complaint and subsequently charged a male from Preeceville with possession and using counterfeit money.
