A recent single-car accident involving a pickup truck crashing into a moose is a reminder that motorists must pay attention to their surroundings.

The truck collided with a moose around 11 p.m. on July 5. The truck was travelling on the highway 9 north when the moose moved onto the road and blocked the truck’s path.

The vehicle’s driver was assisted by witnesses to evacuate his truck before it started on fire, Const. Taunya Kondratoff of the Canora/Sturgis RCMP detachment reported.

The driver, a male from Sturgis, was unharmed.

To avoid accidents such as the one on July 5, motorists should take care to look out for wild animals that may wander onto roadways, especially in the evenings, Kondratoff said.
