The children from the St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church in Sturgis presented a Christmas play Santa at the Crib on Sunday.

Children from the St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Sturgis presented its annual Christmas concert on Sunday.

“Santa at the Crib was a nativity scene played out with Santa Claus bringing a special message at the end of the play,” said Arlene Lingl, religious education teacher. “The children recited gospel readings and sang hymns as they retold the real story of the birth of Jesus.

“At the conclusion of the play, Santa Claus arrived with a special message that he was not the real star of Christmas,” Lingl said. “Santa proceeded to kneel at the crib and paid tribute to baby Jesus.

“The play had a powerful message for many as the real meaning of Christmas is sometimes overpowered by Santa Claus and presents,” she said.

The religious education teachers who directed the play were: Marcia Yagelnesky, Arlene Lingl and Melissa Chorneyko. Rev. Marcin Mironiuk thanked the directors and children for their timely presentation.
