The City of Yorkton is moving away from Meritorious Service Awards Policy to a new Citizen Recognition Awards Policy.
“The ‘Meritorious Service Awards’ policy was established in May of 2005 for the purpose of recognizing citizens with a civic award,” explained Terrence Schneider, Director of Legislation & Procedures with the City, at the regular meeting of Yorkton Council on Monday.
The Director of Legislation & Procedures/City Clerk office was directed to review this policy, he added.
Should Council wish to distribute civic awards in 2018 and onward, the existing policy requires updates, noted Schneider, adding he was presenting a draft of Citizen Recognition Awards Policy.
“This policy update will establish parameters for nominations review committee membership, the nomination process, the nominee criteria, and the process for selecting award recipients,” he said.
Schneider added the Yorkton Co-op has already shown interest in sponsoring the awards in conjunction with the city.
Under the new policy two awards would be presented annually;
• Adult Civic Recognition – Presented to a citizen to recognize the selfless support the individual has made towards the betterment of the City of Yorkton
• Youth Civic Recognition – Presented to a citizen, under the age of eighteen (18) years old prior to December 31 of the current year, to recognize contributions made by the individual towards the betterment of the City of Yorkton.
