Three months into 2016 the City of Yorkton financials appear to be on track with budget.

That was the good news Yorkton Council heard at its regular meeting Monday.

“During the 2016 budget deliberations discussions resulted in a request to providing quarterly reporting of the financial state of the City of Yorkton. This report would include forecasting the quarterly actuals to the end of the year to compare with the annual budget,” explained the City’s Director of Finance Shannon Bell.

Bell presented the report which she said, “Breaks down the revenue and expenses per department and projects the actual expenses incurred from January to March 2016 to the end of the fiscal year.”

A summary “shows that the City of Yorkton manages an annual $45,000,000 operating budget. Of this $45,000,000, $20,000,000 comes from property taxes and the remaining $25,000,000 comes from user fees and fees for goods and services such as water usage, landfill fees and recreation programs,” said Bell.

With only three months to report the numbers are relatively static, said Bell.

“As this is the report for the first quarter there is not a lot that is projected to be different than budgeted,” she said.

“As of the date of this report we are projecting not only to be within budget but to see an additional surplus of about $125,000.”
