SASKATOON - The City of Saskatoon has warned residents following numerous sightings of coyotes in various locations.

Officials are advising the public to take precautions and keep their distance from the animals, as they can be unpredictable when approached.

Coyotes are a vital part of a balanced ecosystem and are commonly found in all significant municipalities across Canada.

Coyotes are a valuable part of the ecosystem, and taking the necessary precautions to live harmoniously with them is essential.

However, the rapid expansion of the city and the construction of larger green spaces have resulted in increased wildlife sightings in residential and commercial areas, mainly where food and shelter are easily accessible.

If you come into contact with a coyote, experts advise observing its movements and finding a way to escape safely.

Additionally, residents should act assertively by yelling and waving their arms to assert dominance and keep the animal at a healthy distance.

Pet owners should keep their animals on a leash and under control, especially outside, and refrain from feeding them outdoors.

Coyotes are scavengers and may be attracted to food waste or other food sources, so securing access to outdoor spaces such as decks and yards is essential.

In case of any inquiries or concerns related to coyotes or other wildlife within city limits, residents may contact Urban Biological Services at 306-975-3300.

For emergencies, please call the Saskatoon Police Service at 306-975-8300.
