CRAIK - This September, Craik RCMP received a complaint of an internet fraud scam regarding investing in Bitcoin.

The victim was contacted through WhatsApp by what they thought was the Ameriprise Financial company. The victim was then conned into opening an account with mutualstockinvestment.com. The scammer had the victim send money through Shakepay as this allowed the scammers to take the victim's investment money.  The victim could go online and check their investment which would show that it was increasing very rapidly.

The scammers then asked for the victim to pay a 20 per cent commission on the investment. When the victim wanted to get their money back, the scammer said they needed to pay $600 in US dollars. No investment money was ever returned to the victim.

Police are sending this out for information purposes and are asking if anyone else has been scammed to call Craik RCMP to report the incident.
