Parents who attended the bullying presentation held by the Canora detachment of the RCMP had an enjoyable experience and had many of their common questions answered, said Patti-Jo Donovan.

The Canora Composite School Community Council (SCC), of which Donovan is the chair, organized the information session which was held at Canora Composite School on November 15. Cst. Manuel Borges taught the session to a group of approximately 20 people.

“The session mainly focused on bullying and cyberbullying, and the main part of the presentation was exploring the RCMP website in order to find resources,” said Borges, who added that anyone may access the RCMP website at www.rcmp.gc.ca and use the A-Z index to find the Centre for Youth Crime Prevention. This section of the site focuses on common youth issues, such as intimate violence, distracted driving and bullying.

Aside from showing parents how to navigate the website, Borges also provided the definition of bullying, the impact of bullying, the aspects of bullying that are against the law, and steps to address bullying behaviour.

“It was a good, informative session. All of the parents there seemed to enjoy it and had lots of good questions for Cst. Borges after his presentation was complete,” said Donovan.
