Yorkton is down one deputy fire chief, but will not be filling the vacancy, at least not immediately.

Mayor Bob Maloney confirmed that as of September 16, Greg Litvanyi was no longer employed by the City, but would not provide any further details citing privacy rules surrounding personnel issues.

Litvanyi, who also runs a motor vehicle sales business on the side told Yorkton This Week he had resigned saying it was “time for a change,” but is going to take some time off before deciding his next move.

Litvanyi worked his way up through the ranks of Yorkton Fire Protective services to become deputy chief for operations and training.

Rumours are circulating around town that the former deputy chief is considering a run for the mayor’s office, but Litvanyi refused to comment. He will, however be remaining in Yorkton. On Wednesday, Litvanyi put his name forward to sit on the executive of the ailing Yorkton branch of the Royal Canadian Legion (see related story).

He said the Legion is an important part of the community and he wants to do what he can to keep it vibrant.

Trevor Morrissey, Yorkton’s fire chief said there are currently no plans to advertise the vacant position. He cited upcoming contract negotiations and a potential reorganization of the force as reasons.
