SASKATOON — A dumpster fire caused a nearby structure in the 900 block of Main Street to go up in flames early Monday morning, Nov. 28.

A Saskatchewan Fire Department fire investigator took over the scene at 3:16 a.m. after fire crews had controlled this fire at 1:42 a.m.

The fire investigator examined the scene, and the fire’s cause was undetermined. The fire, however, originated in dumpsters lining the structure.

The fire caused an estimated damage of $150,000. The structure was secured before the fire investigator and crews left the scene.

The SFD received the fire report at 1:07 a.m. and dispatched three fire engines, one ladder truck, a rescue unit and the Battalion Chief.

Flames were visible at the rear exterior of the single-family housing unit, with fire already in its advanced stage going through the roof.

Fire crews were assigned their tactical duties while personnel from the utility companies shut down all utilities for the safety of everyone at the fire scene.

All occupants were able to evacuate the structure safely. No injuries to firefighters or civilians occurred as a result of this fire.
