The Roughrider Snowmobile club hosted its third-annual family snowmobiling day on February 21. It was held at the May Lake Shack located on the Trans Canada Trail about two kilometres from Sturgis.
"The weather started out very chilly but warmed up nicely," said Becky Scheller. "It was a huge success. We had around 75 people come out for the event. The club groomed some hills prior and the kids went tobogganing and had a blast. The Roughrider Club provided hotdogs, hot chocolate, coffee and popcorn for everyone who attended."
The club offered four door prizes, which were family dining gift certificates to the four local towns that the club’s trail systems go through. This was a way to promote family time. There was also a draw for elementary and high school students. The winners of the draws were: Kent Scheller, elementary; Tory Reynolds, high school; and Jamie Lario, Alex Nagy, Paje Reynolds, Stacey Boychuk won the family dining gift certificates.
The Roughrider Snowmobile Club would like to express its appreciation to everyone who came out Sunday afternoon, said Scheller.
Family Day was originally created to give people time to spend with their families but it also provides a day off between New Year’s Day and Good Friday as they are approximately three months apart.
