The Family Resource Centre, which has been serving children, youth, families and communities in the area for 20 years, is celebrating its anniversary with a coffee and goodies afternoon at both the public libraries in Sturgis on November 22 and Preeceville on November 23.

Some of the main programs offered by the Centre include the summer fun program and the Filling The Gap program and it provides information on many other services offered in the communities, said Karolyn Kosheluk, Family Resource Centre co-ordinator.

“It has taken a lot of years but individuals have finally come to know that we are here and we can provide help or help provide information on other services,” Kosheluk said. Filling the Gap is an invaluable program that counts on community donations along with the support of the churches.

“The biggest changes to the program have been that the need has gone from just at Christmas time to all year long,” she said. “We are very blessed with the huge support from the communities.

“Despite the definite challenges because of the loss of our core funding this past spring, the committee remains determined to find ways to continue to provide programs that support families in the Sturgis, Preeceville and Endeavour areas,” she said.

Kosheluk was hired as co-ordinator in August 2013 following Chris Chabot and Craig Folk.

“The Family Resource Centre was designed to help provide what the community needs,” Kosheluk said. “It has taken a long time to build up and has become very rewarding.

“At this time of year, I am busy with programs that include an early childhood literacy program that is held in Preeceville on Wednesdays,” she said. “I am also involved in providing administration for the Preeceville School’s successful Breakfast Café. We are also busy preparing for the annual Christmas hamper program which is assisted by the Preeceville and District Ministerial Association.”
