File Hills Police Service seeks assistane with homicide investigation

On Jan. 31, at approximately 8:35 p.m., the Saskatchewan RCMP Dispatch Centre received a report of an altercation in a residence on the Star Blanket First Nation.

Officers from the File Hills Police Service responded and inside the residence located a deceased male.  File Hills Police Service requested Saskatchewan RCMP assistance.

The Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit - South immediately responded to the scene and continues to assist with investigating what has been determined to be a homicide.

The deceased male has been identified as a 17-year-old male who resided where the altercation occurred.

Due to the ongoing homicide investigation, residents of the Star Blanket First Nation will see an increased police presence for the next several hours.  There is no risk to public safety.

The investigation continues with the assistance of several specialized RCMP units, the File Hills Police Service, the Fort Qu'Appelle RCMP, and the Saskatchewan Coroner's Service. An autopsy has been ordered for Tuesday, February 4, 2020 in Saskatoon.
