At approximately 1:30 a.m. on May 13 the Kamsack Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire on First Street within the town of Kamsack.

Upon arrival firefighters found a two-story home fully engulfed in flames. Numerous factors contributed to the size of the fire which made it difficult to extinguish, said a release from the Kamsack Volunteer Fire Department.

The heat given off from the initial structure was enough to ignite a nearby car and the adjacent home to the west.

One person sustained injuries from the fire and was transported to hospital, and later transported by STARS ambulance to Regina.

Firefighters were on scene into the afternoon, ensuring a complete overhaul and investigation were performed. A repeat call was responded to that evening when the wind caused some embers to begin smoldering.

The provincial fire commissioner assisted with the investigation, and the cause of the fire is deemed undetermined.

The Kamsack Fire Department would like to remind everyone to ensure they have working smoke alarms installed in their home, and to be vigilant when discarding their smoking materials.
