After the prior reeve was forced to step down from his position, a new reeve for the RM of Keys was elected last week

A total of 213 votes were submitted in the RM of Keys’ election for reeve on January 18. At the prior election on October 26, Vivian Morgan, incumbent reeve, was re-elected as reeve, but due to Section 42(c) of the Local Government Act, which states that those nominated as candidates in a municipal election must be Canadian citizens, he was forced to step down.

On January 18, Garth Bates, the Div. 1 councillor, was elected reeve with a total of 137 votes. His opponent, Sandy Severson, received 76 votes.

Due to the new reeve previously being a councillor, a call for nominations for his position has been issued. Nominations for the position of Div. 1 councillor will be accepted until February 15. Should a vote be required, it will be held on March 22.
