Updated: Fire departments assist in collision that blocked Highway 14

A hydraulic cutting tool was used to extract the patient.

SASKATOON — Warman RCMP were called to the scene at a collision involving two vehicles on Highway 14 about 2.5 kilometers west of Saskatoon, near Range Road 3071.

The Saskatoon Fire Department assisted the Asquith Fire Department in attending to the motor vehicle collision where extraction needed to be done.

The collision involved a semi-tractor trailer and an SUV.

RCMP say the adult male driver and sole occupant of the SUV was taken to hospital with serious injuries. They do not have an update on his condition. The driver of the semi did not report injuries.

AFD’s request was received by SFD at 9:21 a.m. and immediately dispatched to the scene were a fire engine, a rescue unit and the Battalion Chief.

SFD crews provided support to AFD upon arrival and began setting up scene safety to prepare to remove one patient who was trapped in the SUV. AFD attended to the driver of the semi.

SFD, at 9:43 a.m., used a hydraulic cutting tool to remove the patient from the vehicle and patient care was transferred to the ambulance service.

SFD remained on scene to assist Asquith Fire with cleaning up fluid leaking from the semi. The scene was cleared by 10:52 a.m.
