House fire near Canora caps busy week for Canora and District Fire Department

On March 9, fire destroyed a house located approximately nine miles south of Canora on Highway No. 9., said Mike Doogan, fire chief.

The call was received at 9:32 p.m. Upon arrival at the scene, it was discovered that the resident was safely out of the home and no injuries were reported, but the house was fully engulfed in flames. Doogan said firefighters were on the scene until approximately 3 a.m. on March 10. They received welcome assistance from the Rhein fire department and its water tanker, but unfortunately no part of the house could be saved.

The assistance of the homeowner’s neighbours was greatly appreciated, said Doogan. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but does not appear to have been suspicious.

Just after 9 p.m. on March 9, he said a call was received regarding a motor vehicle rollover approximately two miles west of Canora on Highway No. 9. Upon responding to the call, it was discovered that highway conditions were a factor in the accident.

On March 10 at 11:40 p.m. a call was received and responded to regarding a single vehicle rollover on Highway No. 9, approximately one-half mile north of Canora.

A call was received on March 11 at just after 12:30 p.m. for a lift assist in Buchanan. The request came from Canora Ambulance to help with lifting a patient.

Later that evening, at 11:13 p.m., Doogan said a call was responded to regarding a motor vehicle accident in Canora on Fourth Street South. Injuries were undetermined.
