Inflated population numbers for Canora explained?

Several weeks ago when the covered Health Population report was released by Saskatchewan Health, Canora’s population number seemed greatly inflated at 3,262. That’s 520 persons more than were counted the previous year.

Several weeks ago when the covered Health Population report was released by Saskatchewan Health, Canora’s population number seemed greatly inflated at 3,262. That’s 520 persons more than were counted the previous year.

A query was sent to eHealth Saskatchewan and a reply finally arrived last week.

“The Canora population numbers were unaccountably high in the 2015 Covered Population Report, as a result of the new community, Good Spirit Acres, being identified this year in the source data for the Covered Population report,” said Jessica Jeannot, a business analyst for the Information Services & Data Warehouse, Culture Collaboration Innovation Division.

“Investigation of the postal codes associated with Good Spirit Acres revealed that Canora would be the appropriate town to associate the community to, thus inflating the population of Canora.

“Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Your discovery has lead us to revise this association and redistribute appropriately.

“The 2015 Covered Population report will be re-run, with the Good Spirit Acres population properly distributed as well as correct the communities within close proximity that were affected by incorrect association,” Jeannot said.
