To ring in the holiday season, members of the Golden Age Club organized the annual Christmas social.

On December 1, the Invermay Golden Age Club celebrated the 2016 Christmas social, which included supper, songs and fund-raisers. Mike Kaminski, president of the Golden Age Club, welcomed the seniors’ community supporters and celebrants before outlining the function of the seniors’ club and its planned activities for 2017.

Activities for 2017 include card games every Tuesday, active walking in the community hall on Wednesdays and bingo on Fridays. Kaminski made sure to invite community seniors to get active and get involved.

The evening began with a Christmas supper prepared by women involved with the seniors’ club.

The dessert was enjoyed while Loujen Cudal and the Filipino Christmas Carollers provided entertainment.

“Without question, the singing entertainment was the outstanding dessert for the evening,” said Kaminski.

Loujen Cudal led the choir and also extended an invitation to the crowd to participate in the upcoming Filipino Canadian celebration planned for December 17, which will be held at the community hall.

The evening continued with door prizes for almost all of the people present. Raffle winners were Olga Barteski, Allan Peshko, Mike Kaminski, Steve Potorieko and Beatrice Kaminski. A silent auction was also held and was said to be very rewarding for all the participants.

The Golden Age Club members said they acknowledged the sponsors for the event. The funds raised from the social will enable the seniors to maintain the facility and to carry on community-based intergenerational programs.
