The new school year is off to a great start for staff and students of Invermay School. We all arrived back to school on September 1, and were greeted with a nutritious breakfast to start the day. The School Community Council prepared fresh muffins, fruit and juice for everyone to enjoy. We also had an opening assembly in the gym to welcome back students and introduce the staff members. The morning was followed by a scavenger hunt organized by the Student Representative Council (SRC). All of the students had to search around the school to find a piece of paper that had an eagle on it. Everyone who found one was rewarded with a bag full of treats!

On September 13, the SRC held its first spirit day. All staff and students dressed up in their school clothing and school colours. A fun trivia game was also held in the gym at noon. The students were split into two teams, and competed to win bouncy balls.

On September 14, staff and students spent the afternoon in Rama for the CTV News Hometown Tour. The event started with a barbecue hosted by the Rama Co-op, which sold burgers, soda, and doughnuts. The students had tons of fun getting balloon art made for them.      The Rama PALS also offered horse cart rides around the community. Staff and students then had the opportunity to watch David Corey perform horse tricks while he taught the audience about horse training.

From September 21 to 23, Nicholas Chodak, Shayna Dubas, Megan Steranka, Sarah Kowalyshyn, Anmarjola Juenza, Natasha Fey and Nathan Hrynchyshyn (teacher) attended the Saskatchewan Student Leadership Conference (SSLC) in Maple Creek. The conference had a western theme which carried throughout the event. At SSLC, there were many performers and inspirational speakers. Students had lots of fun participating in many games and activities using teamwork skills. On the final evening, a banquet and country hoedown dance was held.

The SRC organized a spirit week from September 26 to 30. The first day of the week was Pajama and Wacky Hair Day, so the staff and students wore their cozy pajamas and had crazy hair. On September 27, students in each grade dressed up in a different colour for Class Color Day. September 28 was Inside Out and Backwards Day, so everyone wore their clothes the wrong way. Students dressed up in black-and-white clothing on September 29, and the week was finished with School Colour Day.

In the afternoon of September 30, staff, students, and community members participated in the annual Terry Fox run. It was a beautiful day for the walk around town. When everyone arrived back at the school, they were treated with Freezies for completing the walk.

The cross-country team competed in their first meet of the season at the Autumn Summit on September 30. The athletes participating were April Grychowski, Kaydence Quennell, Jake Soltys, Chance Enge, Jailin Soltys, Amber Macdonald, Emily Koturbash, Jesse Grychowski, Cole Serron, Danika Soltys, Hallie Pozniak, Trinity Fidek, Dawson Pozniak, Jade Fidek, Melony Koturbash, and Brayden Serron. Completing in top 10 finishes in their age classes were: Jesse Grychowski, placing ninth out of 101 competitors in sneaker boys; Cole Serron, placing 10th out of 77 competitors in peewee boys; Danika Soltys, placing eighth out of 26 in peewee girls; Melony Koturbash, placing 10th out of 13 in midget girls; and Brayden Serron, placing third out of four in junior boys. Great job to all of the athletes!

On October 12, grades 8 to 12 students had the opportunity to attend a presentation by a Canadian Member of Parliament. Cathay Wagantall, MP for Yorkton-Melville, visited our school and provided students with information about Parliament, legislation, and her daily life as an MP. Students were also given a chance to ask her many questions about politics, resulting in a good learning experience for everyone.
