Kamsack Hospital auxiliary urges community members to volunteer to work with the auxiliary

While thanking everyone for attending the Kamsack Hospital auxiliary tea on May 6, auxiliary members are eager to impress upon members of the community how essential it is to have a full complement of members to do the valuable work of the auxiliary.

The tea helped raise funds towards the purchase of hospital equipment for the emergency room and public wards, said information from the auxiliary.

Members originally worked to provide such comforts as bedding, quilts and magazines for in-patients, the information said. “Now things have changed. We work to make the palliative care patient and family unit available and most recently on another quiet room for day use consulting or for overflow families of palliative patients.

“These rooms have been used on a constant basis,” it said. “We also provided funding for kitchen utensils, food carts and in-patient insulated food plate covers.

“All this, and more, is made possible by fundraising efforts of the auxiliary and from donations from the public.

“Recently we have been asked to provide funds for the purchase of emergency room equipment, which is used by our doctors and nurses in treating all patients, including us and you,” the information said. “Thankfully, we are in a position to do it now.”

This all takes a considerable amount of money at a time when the number of auxiliary members is dwindling, it said. Fewer members may not be able to meet these ongoing needs.

“If our community cannot show its commitment to health care, what will happen to our hospital?”

The auxiliary currently has about 12 active members and members claim that the auxiliary would be better able to do its job with about 20 active members.

“Please consider helping in a way most suitable to you, either as a member or non-member of the auxiliary,” the information said, urging persons to contact Darlene Brown, Diana Belovanoff or Marj Orr for more information.

“The Kamsack Hospital Auxiliary needs more members, more ideas and able bodies.”

Several prizes were won at the May 6 tea. Door prizes were won by Ernie Welykholowa, Betty Fedorak, Norma Woodward and Sylvia Boychuk. The winner of the 50/50 draw was Betty Salahub. Winners of other draws were: Ophelia Sakundiak, Judy Green, Pauline Bear, Judy Burwash, Diane Lemire, Al Makowsky, Marj Orr, Audrey Horkoff, Ev Banks, Marge Popoff and Sylvia Boychuk.
