Kamsack Royal Purple Elks to hold annual tag day on May 27 to raise funds for children with hearing

May has been designated by the Elks and Royal Purple Elks of Canada as hearing and speech month and the Kamsack Royal Purple Elks will be holding its annual tag day on May 27, raising money for the Elks and Royal Purple Elks Fund for Children.

May has been designated by the Elks and Royal Purple Elks of Canada as hearing and speech month and the Kamsack Royal Purple Elks will be holding its annual tag day on May 27, raising money for the Elks and Royal Purple Elks Fund for Children.

The purpose of the fund is to provide financial assistance for any purpose that is for the good and welfare of a person prior to attaining his or her 19th birthday when such assistance is not available through any other source, said a release from the Kamsack Royal Purple Elks.

The money from the fund may be used to purchase hearing aids, auditory trainers, medicine, crutches, braces, technical aids, books and many other items required by a needy child, the release said.

The fund also supports the Deaf Detection and Development Program, which provides facilities to test for hearing impairment and aids those who are hearing handicapped.

The audiologist helps people of all ages. Many infants are seen before they are one year old. A child develops a great deal in the first years of life and it is very important that a hearing loss be discovered and treated so that it will not prevent the child from learning.

The audiologist requires a great deal of very sensitive equipment to perform these various functions.

The Elks and Royal Purple Elks have assisted in the purchase of much needed expensive equipment to enable audiologists to perform the necessary complex evaluation in many areas throughout Canada, the release said.
