Members of the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute beginner and junior bands combined with band members from Canora, Invermay, Sturgis, Preeceville and Norquay for a combined Good Spirit School Division Parkland Band to perform in Moose Jaw on May 19.

Included in the band were junior and beginner students from Pelly, which is part of the band program taught by Darren Kitsch, band director at KCI.

Nathan Seghers is the band director for Canora, Invermay, Sturgis, Preeceville, and Norquay.

The beginner band consisted of students in grades 4 and 5, while the junior band consisted of students in grades 6, 7 and 8.

“We had approximately 35 students in the beginner band and 40 students in the junior band, Kitsch said.

Students had a chance to work with University level music educators after each performance in a 45-minute workshop on the large stage at the Mae Wilson Theater in Moose Jaw.

The students greatly improved in their level of performance as a result of the workshop, Kitsch said. “Great Job to all the students involved.”

The students also toured the Moose Jaw tunnels and enjoyed having some free time in downtown Moose Jaw.

The junior band students also stayed overnight in Regina and attended the science centre and IMAX theatre the next day before coming home.
