KCI plans to raise money for Telemiracle with a floor hockey tournament and a dance-a-thon

During the month of February, two “fun” events are being held at the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute in support of the Kinsmen’s Telemiracle 2017, which is being held the first weekend of March.

“This year we are extending invites to parents, guardians and community members to join us in the two charity fundraisers,” said information from the school. “Most communities have a Telemiracle fundraiser, let’s make these ones ours.”

The two events deal with floor hockey and with dancing.

The first event is a non-competitive floor hockey tournament being held February 6 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

In it, individuals sign up and collect pledges to raise money for the charity, it said. “You must raise at least $20 to participate and teams will be divided with community members, staff, parents, guardians and students participating on the teams.

“We are encouraging moms and dads to come out as well and play some fun floor hockey,” the information said. “There will be a concession, a puck drop, some 50/50 draws and some raffles to help us fundraise.

“Please note that the events are only open to participants,” it said, adding that there will be no audience because organizers are not equipped to supervise extra people.

Persons wishing to participate must submit registration forms by tomorrow (February 3) so that teams can be assembled.

There will be prizes for such things as the best team spirit and best costumes as well as some “silly fun awards.”

It is expected that the event will be making use of the school’s both gyms and if there are a sufficient number of participants, there may also be a road hockey event outside.

“We hope you join our students in a fun, non-competitive floor hockey event,” it said. The real winner of the event will be Telemiracle.

The second fun event, which is open to KCI students, staff, community members, parents and guardians is a dance-a-thon being held February 13 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Being held in the KCI main gym, the event will have costumes as its theme and participants will dance one half hour, have a 10-minute break to get a snack and a drink, and repeat.

“There will be music for all ears and it is just meant to be a fun, social, silly time charity fundraiser,” the information said. The event will include a concession, 50/50 and other raffle draws and one may purchase a one-dollar “shout out” to anyone during the dance. A shout out is a dedication that is read out by the DJ during the dance.

Participants need to get their registration forms submitted by February 10.

Persons who work may join the rest after work, but should first indicate a late arrival on the pledge form.

Again, participants must have a minimum of $20 in pledges.

“We hope you join us,” the information said. “Both events will be a lot of fun and we will be selling Telemiracle hands at the events as well.

“Come out and support a great Saskatchewan charity that supports the people of Saskatchewan.”
