KCI students involved with the Free the Children project undertook a “We Scare Hunger” campaign prior to and during Halloween in order to collect non-perishable foods that will be used to fill hampers that are to be donated to district families in need. Photographed last week in front of an assortment of the foods that had been collected, from left, were: (standing) Anastasia Schwartz, Breanna Bland, Shani Bear, Laurissa Fedorchuk, Julianna Raabel and Jalayna Bielecki, and (seated) Mila Carpenter-Bloudoff, Jordyn Thomas, Tara Taylor and Shaelyn David. Allison Thomsen, Leah Schwartz, Alexia Tourangeau and Petrie Whitehawk were not available for the photo.

Leading to Halloween, the Free the Children group at the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute conducted a “We Scare Hunger” campaign.

In the campaign, students visited homes with a request for non-perishable foods that are to be used to create food hampers, said Laurissa Fedorchuk, one of about a dozen KCI students involved in the project. A hamper was also set up in the school where students and members of the community could deposit such donations.

This project is similar to the Christmas hamper campaign but is done closer to Halloween, Fedorchuk explained, adding that a hamper was also set up at a Kamsack grocery store.
