KCI students raising money while helping to bring Christmas cheer to district residents

Students of the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute have been canvassing the community in order to raise money for the school while helping to bring cheer to the community during the Christmas period.

Students of the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute have been canvassing the community in order to raise money for the school while helping to bring cheer to the community during the Christmas period.

The students sold fruit, juice and cookie dough to raise money for the school’s annual Christmas hamper campaign and are still selling bundles of garden produce for the same campaign and will generate additional funds for school activities with the sale of holiday planters which include poinsettias.

For several years now the students have been selling the fruit, juice and cookie dough, said a representative of the SRC. Available in that sale includes apples, pears, oranges, grapefruit, a variety of cookie dough, apple and apple-and-raspberry juice as well as apple chips.

Some of the proceeds from the sale goes towards the annual Christmas hamper campaign, while the rest goes to the school to help pay for various activities. The sale ended on Monday.

The mandarin oranges sold in that campaign were said to have been the best-tasting and sweetest tasting mandarin oranges ever.

Still being sold are bundles of farm produce. Customers may select a bundle containing two pounds of carrots, two pounds of onions and five pounds of potatoes for $12, or a bundle containing three pounds of carrots, three pounds of onions, 10 pounds of red potatoes, one pound of parsnips and one head of green cabbage for $22.

Customers are being given the option of paying for a bundle for a Christmas hamper rather than purchasing the food for themselves, the spokesperson said.

The vegetable orders are due on November 30.

In addition, KCI has again partnered with the Flower House Florist and Garden Design to offer “beautiful holiday planters for gift giving or holiday decorating.”

In the program, three selections costing $40, $50 and $65, are available and each selection contains a poinsettia and a variety of green, tropical or foliage plants. Colour selection is red, pink and white. The planters will be delivered November 30, December 7 and December 11.

Proceeds from the sale of the holiday planters will go to the school to help support student activities.
