Kelvington 4-H Beef Club holds its weigh-in day

The Kelvington 4-H Beef Club members, parents and animals gathered at Zagrodney Farm on April 2 for a clipping, grooming, judging and weigh-in day, said Blake Zagrodney, club reporter.

The Kelvington 4-H Beef Club members were weighed on a scale which was part of the fun at its annual animal weigh-in day. The Kelvington 4-H Beef Club members, parents and animals gathered at Zagrodney Farm on April 2 for a clipping, grooming, judging and weigh-in day, said Blake Zagrodney, club reporter.

Scott Sunderland and Brittany Hunt provided instructions to the club members on proper grooming and clipping techniques for their animals. The club held a hotdog-and-hamburger lunch break.

The members went back to the barn for a judging demonstration by Kennedy Zagrodney. Members had the opportunity to practice their skills using judging cards.

“Everyone had a chance to lead his or her animals and practice showing,” said Blake Zagrodney. “Everyone weighed his or her calves and for fun all the club members got on the scale to be weighed as a group. The total weight of the club members was 1,400 pounds.
            “We held a quick meeting before going home,” he said. “Everyone had lots of fun and it was a great day.
            The Kelvington 4-H Club catered the Kelvington Co-op annual general meeting on March 28, he said. The club served a roast beef supper with all the trimmings.

“It's was a delicious meal and a great turn out,” he said.
            The club congratulated Amber Spray and Blake Zagrodney who both placed first in their age categories for public speech at the district competition on March 23 in Kelvington. The pair advanced to the regional public speaking on April 8 in Kelvington.
