Kelvington 4-H Club members hold public speaking competition

The Kelvington 4-H Beef club held its public speaking competition on March 5 at the Kelvington High School. “The cloverbuds, junior and intermediate club members all participated in the event,” said Blake Zagrodney, club reporter.

The Kelvington 4-H Beef club held its public speaking competition on March 5 at the Kelvington High School.

            “The cloverbuds, junior and intermediate club members all participated in the event,” said Blake Zagrodney, club reporter.

Coverbud winners included: Amber Spray, first place for her speech on “My Trip to Edmonton:” Tarynn Sutter placed second place for the speech entitled “My Big Brother,” and Kendra Ewen placed third for her speech, named “Whiskers.”

            In the junior category, winners were: Blake Zagrodney, first place for “Grade 4 Spelling” speech; Morgan Sutter, second place for “Chickens 101,” and Shen Perron placed third for “Disneyland with my Family.”

            In the intermediate category; Bradley Elmy placed first for his speech “Sisters” and Chelsey Moxham placed second for her speech “Where There is Life, There is Hope.”

            Heather Elmy and Gwen Olshewski took the time to be the judges for the afternoon, said Zagrodney. “First and second-place winners will move on to the district competition on March 23 at the Kelvington High School.

Carman, Shandra, Sheena and Chelsey Moxham decorated the hall for the Kelliher Ladies Night Out and for donating the proceeds from the evening to the Kelvington 4-H Beef Club, he said.

            After speeches, the club hosted a meeting covering several upcoming events. Included in the list of topics was the catering of the East Central Co-op annual supper that will be held on March 28 at the Kelvington Hall. District 42 will be hosting the Regional Public Speaking competition on April 8. The club’s achievement day is to be held at the Kelvington Stockyards on June 24.

            “Our next meeting will focus on grooming, clipping, showmanship and a calf tour combination in early April,” said Zagrodney.
