A dedicated and longtime official in baseball was surprised by some recognition he received from the Outlook River Hawks last week.
On Friday, June 25 just before the River Hawks took on Rosetown on Diamond 3 in Outlook, a presentation was held for umpire Trevor Drury, who had received the Dick Williams Memorial Award for Umpire of the Year in 2019. The award recognized Trevor as Canada's official of the year for his outstanding contributions to umpiring in the game of baseball.
Due to the restrictions surrounding COVID-19 at the time, there were no official celebrations or presentation at the time. That changed at the Outlook game when Drury was surprised by River Hawks coach Dean Corbett, Les Langager, and player Brent Larwood. He received a commemorative bat, as well as a warm round of applause from those gathered for the game.
Drury has performed as an official at the elite levels not only in Saskatchewan, but around the country as well as internationally. He is known for always bringing his professionalism to the diamond, and his knowledge of the game and love for it is evident.
Drury has been a pillar of the baseball umpire program in the province for over 20 years, and his duties have seen him perform at three international events, numerous national championships, the Women's Invitational Competition in Okotoks, Alberta, as well as plate duties at the Under 21 Men's Championships. Along the way over those two decades, Drury has earned the respect of baseball players, officials, and coaches no matter where the game has been played.
