The Sturgis Station House museum is gearing up for another successful season which begins May 20. Many changes will greet regular patrons.

The biggest change will be the addition of the Brookeview one-room school. It is scheduled to be moved onto the museums property this summer.

“It will be great addition to the museum and we are hopeful that we can get it moved this summer without any complications,” said Myrtle Boychuk, a spokesperson for the museum.

There are many events and activities planned for this season, she said. It will kick off with a tea followed by a rhubarb festival in June  and school tours. From July to September the museum will be hosting a museum market on a bi-weekly basis.

The museum is excited to announce the official opening of the First Nation exhibit in Sepember. It will be held in conjunction with celebrations of First Nation culture.

“We will be sponsoring a volunteer recognition day in August for all our dedicated volunteers, said Boychuk.

The museum is currently looking at applicants for the curator position.

Executive members for the new season are: Myrtle Boychuk, chairperson; Kathy Brodie, vice-chairperson; Verna Karpyk, treasurer; and Greta German, secretary. Directors are Hazel Urbanoski, Vern Poworoznyk, Karen Rose and Terry Hancock.
