Minor hockey day featured Preeceville teams

Minor Hockey day has all teams in action n front of a hometown crowd in Preeceville.

PREECEVILLE — The Preeceville Skating Arena was a busy centre as hockey teams took their turns in action during Minor Hockey Day on Jan. 21.

The youngest team, the U7, was the first team on the ice as they took on the Norquay U7 North Stars.

“There was no recorded score as at this age level we focus on fun, learning and building on the fundamental skills,” said Jeff Chupik, coach.

The Preeceville U9 hockey team faced off against the Melville U9 White team with a win for Melville, 21-4.

The Canora/Preeceville  U11 team took on the Norquay U11 North Stars. Both teams were evenly matched with training goals but it was Norquay who edged out Preeceville with a 5-4 win.

The Preeceville U13 team faced off against the Hudson Bay U13 Hunters and skated to a 10-10 tie.

The Highway 9 Predators U15 team faced off the Indian Head U15 Chiefs. The Preds team is based out of Canora but has several players on the team from Preeceville and Sturgis. Indian Head got out to an early start and never looked back with a 9-1 final score.

The day of hockey concluded with the U18 Canora Cobras facing a rough and challenging game against the Yorkton U18 Weeks Terriers that ended in a loss for the Cobras with a final score of 4-3 for Yorkton.

There were multiple raffles that were drawn throughout the day. Winners were: Deli Alexson (loonie stick), Maria Vanas (loonie stick), Sharon Draper and Joselyn Symak each won a moms basket, Doreen Salisbury (hockey themed prize pack), Kara Ostapovich (booze basket), Ralph Ager (variety basket), Bobbiann Danielson( dad basket), Tracey Bletsky (family basket) and Macy Balawyder (kids' basket).
