A Calgary-based artist and his trio will be performing an energetic pop, jazz and soul-infused take on the classic Christmas and holiday tunes everyone knows and loves at the Kamsack Playhouse on Saturday.

Jesse Peters is currently on tour in Manitoba, and the Kamsack show is his only Saskatchewan stop, said a release from the Kamsack Arts Council, which is sponsoring his visit as the second of four Stars for Saskatchewan concerts being brought to Kamsack for the 2015-16 season.

“We are looking forward to a fun evening of toe-tapping, head-bobbing, can't-help-but-sing-along music to get in the holiday spirit,” the release said. “The show is suitable for all ages, and we hope whole families come out to enjoy this night of holiday cheer together.”

Advance tickets are available for $25 at Cottenie and Gardner Inc. in Kamsack.

The Notched Branch and the Iron Grill restaurants will be offering pre-theatre supper specials, so those wanting to go out for a special meal prior to the show should contact the restaurants for more information, it said.

“In the world of music, there are two types of performers: those who play for themselves, and those who play for their audience. Jesse is definitely the latter,” it said. “With his soul bared at each and every performance his musical sincerity draws in anyone willing to let go and come along for the ride.

“Textures that honour Jesse’s great influences like Ray Charles and Billy Joel are fused into the modern sound that Jesse creates, and recreates every time he sits in front of a piano and microphone. Blessed with a natural ability to convey both brilliant musicality, and true emotion with his voice, Jesse draws on life and tradition to craft the future.

“The combination of these two talents creates a recipe for excitement, exploration, and interaction that has left audiences across North America standing in the aisles and screaming for more.”

At the age of 17 Peters received an award for outstanding musicianship at MusicFest Canada from the great Diana Krall, it said. By the age of 21, his first group, The Peters Drury Trio, had released two very successful recordings that were distributed in Canada, the United States as well as in Hong Kong.

After leaving the PDT, Peters became known as the face and voice of Edmonton-based funk-soul band Paramedic. Both Paramedic's debut album and sophomore album were nominated for Western Canadian Music Awards (2006 and 2009). He released Face Time, his first solo album, in 2011 and followed that with a sophomore release in 2013 called Swingtime.

Peters has had music featured on several television shows including Arctic Air (CBC), Continuum (Showcase), Bitten (SyFy) and SEED (City TV). Touring has taken him all over North America and across the Pacific to China. Highlights have included playing in the prestigious Glenn Gould Studio Theatre in Toronto, performing in New York City, and a tour of major centres in China.
