In October, two new physicians are scheduled to arrive and receive orientation to Sunrise Health Region. The health region recruited the physicians to fill vacancies in Preeceville and area, said a news release from Sunrise Health Region.

Dr. Catharina Meyer will arrive in the region and begin a week of orientation on October 3, the release said. Another physician is expected to begin a week of orientation on October 11, pending successful completion of the Saskatchewan International Physician Practice Assessment (SIPPA).

After orientation, the physicians will join Dr. Morteza Shahrestani and Dawn Kennedy, the nurse practitioner, in accepting appointments at the Preeceville Health Care Centre.

Ahead of the physicians’ arrival, the clinic continues to be fully operational with appointments available, the release said.

Consultations to develop a plan for emergency services will occur with the new physicians after they have completed their orientation, it said.

“Last week, I had the opportunity to meet with members of Preeceville Town Council and Preeceville Health Action Committee,” said Suann Laurent, president and CEO of Sunrise. “We discussed the importance of working together to welcome, support and retain the physicians and nurse practitioner.”
