Following an RCMP investigation into a February 16 complaint of break, enter and theft at a rural residence northwest of Swan Plain, a report from the Kamsack/Pelly RCMP detachment states that Wayne Babiuk of Norquay is wanted on several Criminal Code warrants.
When investigating the complaint, Kamsack RCMP members discovered that the residence and a vehicle were damaged by a baseball bat and threats were made to the home owners and police. Two firearms were reported stolen from the residence.
The victims and Babiuk are known to each other, states the RCMP release. The victims were not physically injured as a result of the incident.
As a result of the investigation, Babiuk, who is 41 years of age, has been charged with: one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle (Sec 249(1) of the Criminal Code); one count of mischief (Sec 430(4) of the Criminal Code); two counts of uttering death threats (Sec 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code; one count of break and enter (Sec 348(1)(b) of the Criminal Code); one count of possessing firearms (Sec 92(3)(a) of the Criminal Code); snd six counts of breach of undertaking (Sec 145(3) of the Criminal Code).
Wayne Babiuk is described as six feet tall (183 cms), 200 lbs. (95 kgs), with brown hair and green eyes. In the February 18 release, RCMP stated that Babiuk may be operating a red 1998 Ford F150 four-wheel drive truck with a supercab and Saskatchewan licence 077-HTP. Babiuk is known to live a transient lifestyle and it would not be uncommon for him to take shelter in sheds and abandoned buildings, states the release.
As a warning to the public the RCMP release said Babiuk is possibly armed and is considered dangerous. “Do not approach him.”
