The town council of Outlook met for a scheduled meeting on Wednesday night, July 12. Present was all of council; Donna Smith, Maureen Weiterman, Kyle McLeod, Maureen Applin, Floyd Childerhose, and Dave Simonson, as well as Mayor Ross Derdall, administrator Trent Michelman, recreation director Jordy Jones, and superintendent Luke Lockhart. Absent was assistant administrator Laurie Lemon.
A number of topics and issues were discussed, including the following highlights:
- A problem involving illegal dumping is occurring out at the town landfill in which people are dropping garbage at the gates of the facility when it’s closed at night, possibly as a means of escaping any charges for dumping their refuse. As a result, the town may look into a security camera system for the landfill.
- Trees that have been transplanted near the site of the new swimming pool will hopefully help with dust near the location.
- Rec director Jones is pleased with the response to the Kinsmen Park summer program so far, as it is off to a good start and parents are getting involved.
- Benches may soon be installed at the site of the new park area located at the corner of the fourway stop in town. It was also mentioned later in the meeting that further beautification of the area may be done after the positive financials came in following Outlook’s recent Canada 150 weekend.
- After recent acts of vandalism in town, full restitution has been requested through the RCMP.
- Preliminary work has been done on the parking access project on the east side of the orange walking bridge outside of town.
- The Canadian Food Grains Bank is set to receive $12,000 after the offering at Outlook’s Canada 150 church services at the Jim Kook Rec Plex netted $3000, with the number being matched several times over.
- Council approved the Museum Board’s request for trailers to be located on the grounds.
As town council only meets once per month in the summer months, the next meeting is scheduled for August 9.
