A Kamsack resident who has worked at Duck Mountain Provincial Park as a park and nature interpreter since 2012, began work as the recreation director at Kamsack on August 10.
Dayna Guertin succeeds Shanley Allard who has worked as the Kamsack recreation director since May 2019.
Originally of Yorkton, Guertin graduated from the Yorkton Regional High School in 2009 and then attended post-secondary education at Fleming College in Peterborough, Ont. where she spent two years studying community and justice services. She then took a two-year course in resource management at Saskatchewan Polytechnic in Prince Albert.
An outdoor enthusiast, Guertin, while still a student, began working at Duck Mountain and after obtaining the job as an interpreter, she developed and delivered the summer programming at the park for visitors of all ages. In March 2019, she planned the first ever Duck Mountain Winter Festival.
“I look forward to being able to bring the Kamsack community together through recreation, culture, arts and especially nature, since I’m a nature nut,” she said last week on her first day of work, adding that she’s noticed that because there are many talented people in the Kamsack area, she would enjoy focusing on arts and crafts programming for people of all ages.
“Being newer to the community, I’m excited to get to know the community and make all the connections with groups and individuals.”
