Playhouse packed for Community Christmas concert on Sunday

It was a near full house at the Kamsack Playhouse on Sunday for the Community Christmas Concert.

            “We hope to revive the tradition of having a community Christmas concert each year,” said Jack Koreluik, emcee of the program and representative of the Kamsack Playhouse board.

            The concert began with the Kamsack Community Choir performing Carols of Gathering, The Chipmunk Song and Do You Hear What I Hear, and then members of the KCI beginner band performed Rain, Rain, Hot Cross Buns and Jingle Bells.

As a soloist, Colleen Kazakoff sang Christmas in My Home Town and Nuttin’ for Christmas.

James Perry and Ellen Amundsen-Case, who performed a hilarious rendition of The 12 Days of Christmas during the Scrooge Macbeth dinner theatre at the beginning of the month, reprised that number.

The four-person Kamsack-based band Rise Above performed two numbers, and then closed the concert with two more.

The KCI junior band performed three numbers and then Marilyn Marsh and Jeremy Ruten performed Hark the Harald Angels Sing and Go Tell it on the Mountain as a piano duet.

Members of the the KCI senior band performed three selections, including 20 carols in two minutes, and then Charlotte Henderson and Isobelle Henderson performed Good King Wenceslas as a clarinet duet.

Zennovia Duch, Susan Bear and Kathie Galye, accompanied by Marilyn Marsh, performed three numbers as a trio.

Ashley Hollett recited a song with accompaniment by Marilyn Marsh.

Zennovia Duch and Mike Sas performed two Ukrainian Christmas carols.

The grades 7A and 7B xylophone ensembles, accompanied by Darren Kitsch, their instructor, performed two selections.

Darren Kitsch’s piano students, Jacob Burback, Zachary Burback, Kennan Kitsch and Treanna Woodworth performed Joy to the World on bells.

After the second appearance on stage for Rise Above, Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus entered the theatre and distributed candies and gifts to children.
