Poker tournament held in Preeceville

A Texas-Hold-em tournament was held at the Preeceville Curling rink on November 18. It attracted 26 players from across the local and surrounding areas of Preeceville, Sturgis, Canora, Kamsack, Lintlaw and Okla, said Tim Olson, organizer.

            Dealers for the tournament were Ralph Ager, Olson and James Bodnar.

            The top five players were, Jeremy Mattison of Preeceville; Lee Symak of Kamsack; Terry Dennis of Canora; Darcy Rediger of Preeceville and Brad Hallick of Sturgis.

            Preeceville Curling is scheduled to kick off its season on November 20 with a Monday afternoon recreation league. Every Tuesday and Wednesday is the regular four-on-four curling and Thursdays feature a two-on-two curling league.

            "It is very exciting to see 15 junior curlers and 11 senior curlers from the school utilizing the rink,” said Olson. “We have not see that many students come out to curl for a long time."

            There will be a scheduled rib-and-wing fundraiser night along with a two-on-two bonspiel on December 1.

            Sheldon Luciw is the ice maker and caretaker for the rink.

            Other poker tournaments are scheduled for January 13 and April 7.

            A senior bonspiel is featured for January 8-12.
