PPC candidate holds 'Meet & Greet' in Yorkton

Candidate says freedoms a key issue
YORKTON - Braden Robertson, People’s Party of Canada (PPC), candidate for Yorkton-Melville held a ‘Meet and Greet’ at City Centre Park in Yorkton Saturday.

Robertson said so far the response to his campaign has been a positive one.

“It has been nothing but support - nothing but good vibes,” he told media.

As for his own decision to run for the PPC, Robertson said there was no candidate declared in the constituency and he felt strongly that voters needed the option to vote for the party.

“It was one of those things I just had to do,” he said, adding he felt a “very strong” conviction “to step up.”

So what has the focus been for Robertson early in campaign?

Freedoms top the list, he said, adding people feel their freedoms are being eroded and “they want to get their freedoms back.”

Robertson said COVID has also tended to be a focus in the election.

When asked about vaccinations for COVID Robertson said the PPC are neither pro, or anti vaccination, but added people should have the freedom of choice in whether to be vaccinated, or not. He said it is a decision between an individual, their family and the doctor.

“Government has no jurisdiction in that,” he added.

While COVID might be a focus for many, Robertson said there are other issues he would like to be talking to people about, including the impact of spending by the Liberal government, the need to look at how transfer payments are made, and the importance of oil pipelines and how they could bring renewed prosperity to Saskatchewan and Alberta.

The next step in the campaign for Robertson will be attracting volunteers across the riding, and getting his lawn signs and brochures out to supporters and voters.
