The Preeceville and District Heritage Museum was represented by board members Agnes Murrin, Lorne and Marge Plaxin and Darlene Medlang at the Seneca Root meeting held in Kamsack on April 26.

“We have not been opened since our October meeting,” Agnes Murrin, chair, said, adding that the report will be about the plans for 2017.

“The Museum Grant Program application was completed online and we were pleased to have been awarded funds,” she said, adding that the cost estimates for the replacement of the electrical wiring have been received.

Murrin said she had decided to work toward her master of advanced studies certificate which should be completed in fall of 2017. She is also planning on attending the MAS (Museums Association of Saskatchewan) annual general meeting and mini conference to be held in Regina on May 25-26.

The spring cleanup is scheduled for May 11, she said. The seasonal opening and open house is scheduled for May 24 with the theme surrounding Canada 150.

The museum’s annual general meeting is booked for May 16. The summer student works grant has been approved and a summer curator has been hired.

“We have plans to paint our fashion rooms and lobby this year,” said Murrin.” A special memorial sign in honour of our founding members will be erected this spring.

“We will also have a float in the town’s Canada 150 Celebration parade on August 5,” she said.

Fundraising projects planned for the museum this year include a 1950s evening show-and-shine event on June 23; the selling of clay oven baked loaves of bread during the season and hosting a chili, clay oven bread, and jam day on July 12 during Old Home Week.

The museum continues to sell Lines of the Past, which is the Preeceville history book and hosted a volunteer tea on April 25.

“We have our full complement of 12 board members,” said Murrin. “We purchased some new mannequins and plan to purchase a new computer, printer, projector and photocopier this year.”
