Dave Hearn of Preeceville won $1,000, the main prize, at the fourth annual ice-fishing derby sponsored by the Buchanan branch of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation on March 13.
There were 243 fisherman registered and the total number of fish caught was 73, said Kent Zuravloff, president of the Buchanan branch.
With good weather for the day and the number of participants and fish caught similar to previous years, it was another successful year, said Zuravloff. Darren Lindgren of Carbon Outdoors, an Internet hunting-and-fishing show, has been the sponsor of the major prizes since the ice-fishing derby began.
This is the first year that the branch offered a major door prize. The value of the fishing trip package was estimated at $1,500.
