The Preeceville Hospital Auxiliary Christmas auction, which was held at the Preeceville Club 60 on November 27,was deemed another success by organizers.

"Everything up for auction was generously donated by community and surrounding area members," said Elaine Christopherson, president.

Items donated included: bread, buns, an assortment of goody trays, crocheted items, grab bags and a hand-crafted wooden chest donated by Joe Luciw.

Christopherson spoke briefly on the accomplishments and donations of the auxiliary.

"Through everyone's generous support through donations, memorials and attendance of our functions, we are still striving to keep our out-patient department, lab and palliative room the best they can be,” she said.

The auxiliary is working on refurbishing the east solarium through private donations. Over the year the auxiliary has purchased coat hooks, a mobile stand for toiletries and a garbage can for the palliative care. In the future the auxiliary will look into updating the palliative area.

Other purchases made by the auxiliary include school bursaries to Preeceville and Sturgis graduating students who are entering the health field, and a scholarship for Preeceville students entering nursing in memory of Esther Paul and Marie Phoenix. Members laid a wreath at the Remembrance Day Service and recently ordered an otoscope (medical device which is used to look into the ears) and a cautery (an instrument or a caustic substance used for cauterizing) for emergencies.

Something new is the purchase of teddy bears for the ambulance to be given to children or the elderly for comfort.

Stacey Strykowski, chairperson of the Preeceville and District Health Action Committee brought greetings from the committee. "Our group was formed in June 2016 with the purpose of  the permanent and ongoing needs of doctor recruitment and retention," she said. "It is our intention to help out whenever we can to ensure that the doctors in our facility feel proud to call Preeceville their home and to be the envy of other communities for the strong relationship our community has with our physicians," she concluded.
