Preeceville Western Weekend said a success

Along with the featured chariot and chuckwagon races, there were numerous other activities to keep everyone busy at the Preeceville and District Lions club western weekend on July 14 to 16.

            Along with the featured chariot and chuckwagon races, there were numerous other activities to keep everyone busy at the Preeceville and District Lions club western weekend on July 14 to 16.

            Friday night kicked off the events with a chariot and chuckwagon races sponsored by the Eastern Professional Chariot and Chuckwagon Association. The chariot and chuckwagon races continued on Saturday and concluded on Sunday.

            There were 41 entries in the chariot race. The top five winners of the three-day total were, Casey Peterson, Colin Kilborn, Colleen Galloway, Dakata Longman and Wayne Salmond.

            There were 26 entries in the chuckwagon race. The top five winners of the three-day total were, Larry Salmond, Larry Schnell, Bert Buhler, Casey Peterson and Rick Althouse.

            O and E Concession of Canora provided sweet treats such as cotton candy, popcorn and candy apples.

            On Saturday afternoon children played a variety of games. The games featured included a ball toss, bean bag toss,  Frisbee golf, ladder toss, sling shot, water balloons, water gun fun, bubbles, balloon darts and soccer ball, There was also a giant human ball run. Individuals climbed into the middle and rolled down an inflatable run. The games were co-ordinated by the Town of Preeceville recreation board.

            Inflatable bouncing castles provided some extra fun for the children in attendance.

            Also on Saturday there was a total of $2,800 in prize money won at the ball tournaments which featured co-ed slo-pitch, and senior slo-pitch..

            Rob McLane and Against the Grain supplied the music for the open air dance.

            Sunday morning was kicked off with a pancake breakfast followed by a Christian cowboy service at the sportsgrounds.

            The Preeceville Community Hall sponsored bingo games under the big top during the two days.

            A gymkhana, sponsored by the Etomamie Valley Riders Club, was held on Saturday and Sunday.

            A concession and beer gardens were available on both days.

            The Preeceville Volunteer Fire Department was responsible for keeping the track watered for dust control and firemen sold 50/50 tickets. KevRhon Transport supplied a water-tanker for watering the track.

            The Assiniboine Beef Multi-4H Club were in attendance on Sunday with club members displaying its goat projects. The club also sponsored a chicken scat bingo with Leona Kowalchuk winning $90. Club members in attendance were, Liam, Sawyer and Ross Townsend, Dawson and Sam Volpatti and Kendra and Haley Hueser. Billy Joe Townsend and Dani Volpatti, leaders oversaw the event.

            Therese Nabb displayed Prairie Western Rustic art work during the weekend.

            Gerald Ignatiuk provided wagon rides for the children in a home built barrel wagon during the weekend.
