The government continues to fund a unique Saskatoon program that helps low-income people with their legal needs.
Justice Minister and Attorney General Gordon Wyant presented the Community Legal Assistance Services for Saskatoon Inner City Inc. (CLASSIC)
with a cheque for $90,000 last month.
This is part of a three year funding agreement worth $300,000 that started in 2013.
“Improving access to justice should be an important goal of any legal system,” Wyant said. “CLASSIC offers a tremendous service for the people of Saskatoon by offering legal assistance to those who may not be able to seek that crucial guidance otherwise.”
The agreement provides funding for CLASSIC’s Legal Advice Clinic, which supports direct legal assistance to low-income individuals in inner-city Saskatoon.
It will also be used to support the Walk-in Advocacy Clinic, which pairs College of Law students with practicing lawyers to provide advice, assistance, and representation to clients.
The Ministry of Justice has been providing CLASSIC with financial support since it began operations in 2007.
