The Saskatchewan Rattlers, member club of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL), are excited to announce Nelson Terroba as the lead assistant coach under head coach Chad Jacobson’s coaching staff. Terroba brings a great deal of experience to the coaching staff as well as a new face to the Rattlers organization.
Terroba is currently an assistant coach and defensive coordinator for the Texas Legends of the NBA G League. The Legends are the G League affiliate of the Dallas Mavericks. Prior to joining the Legends, Terroba spent 2 years as the head coach and general manager of the St. John Riptide in the National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC). Under Terroba’s leadership, the Riptide qualified for the playoffs in both of the seasons he was with the team. Additionally, the team finished second and first in overall defence in the league during his tenure. Terroba also spent 1 season with the Erie Bayhawks - the NBA G League affiliate of the Orlando Magic at the time - as the assistant coach and video coordinator. He has also coached with the Bakersfield Jam (now the Northern Arizona Suns) of the G League as a video coordinator.
After graduating from the University of Texas, Terroba joined the Texas Longhorns men’s basketball program where he served as an assistant under coach Rick Barnes. During his time with the Longhorns he directed the Longhorn summer basketball camp, was responsible for video exchange, scouted opponents and helped in producing recruiting materials.
The Dripping Springs, TX native joins newly appointed head coach Chad Jacobson on a new-look Rattlers bench. Not only a highly-capable and talented coach, his skill in recruiting premier talent will be an asset to the Rattlers organization as they continue to build the roster for the upcoming 2020 season.
“I am thrilled to have Coach Terroba join the Rattlers staff for the 2020 season,” said Rattlers GM, Barry Rawlyk. “Coach Terroba is a proven leader who has been involved in basketball at every level. His attention to detail is incredible and will be a major asset to the organization. He brings a wealth of experience in the amount of leadership roles that he has held and is a phenomenal teacher and mentor to the players who he has coached. We look forward to welcoming Coach Terroba to Saskatchewan and are excited to have him as part of our coaching staff.”
“I am excited to work with Coach Jacobson and GM Rawlyk as the Rattlers embark on their 2020 season,” said Terroba. “It was a big honour asked to be a part of a championship organization and I am looking forward to integrating and being a part of the community in Saskatchewan. As a coach, I pride myself on helping players improve on their game so that they may take the next step in their careers. The way the CEBL is set up is a great opportunity for players to work on their craft and compete in the summer in a very competitive league.”
The Rattlers enter the 2020 season as the defending CEBL Champions. They will open the season away from home on May 8 when they take on the Fraser Valley Bandits. The Rattlers home opener will take place on May 14 against the Bandits, when they will celebrate the 2019 season by unveiling the first-ever CEBL Championship banner. Season and flex pack tickets are now available on therattlers.ca, with group tickets and single-game tickets expected to be released in the coming months.
