The RCMP Crime Reduction Team have charged a male from Melfort with drug/weapons offences following arrests near Wakaw on January 30, 2020.

As a result of an ongoing investigation, the Prince Albert Crime Reduction Team arrested two males and three females in a vehicle at the Shell Gas Station near Wakaw on Thursday the 30th of January, 2020. And, with the assistance of the Melfort RCMP and Prince Albert Integrated Street Enforcement Team, also executed a search warrant at a home on Stovel Avenue in Melfort.

As a result of the arrests and subsequent search, 29 grams of suspected methamphetamine, other drug paraphernalia and a replica handgun were seized.

One individual is charged at this time;

Barkley SWENSON, 45 year old male from Melfort

Charges include;

Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
Possession of a Weapon While Prohibited
Failure to Comply with an Undertaking

SWENSON has been remanded into custody, to appear in Melfort Provincial Court on February 6, 2020.

The investigation is ongoing and further charges may be forthcoming.

The Saskatchewan RCMP has two Crime Reduction Teams (CRTs) operating in the province. Their mandate is to overtly target known criminals, prolific offenders, and repeat offenders to reduce crime and make Saskatchewan safer. The two teams, based out of North Battleford and Prince Albert, are completely mobile and travel to areas that require assistance where community safety has been identified as a concern.
