Saskatchewan RCMP, in partnership with Saskatchewan Highway Patrol (SHP), issued 20 driver’s license suspensions during an impaired driving initiative last weekend – 12 of which were drug-related.

Officers from the Southey and Lumsden RCMPDetachments, Saskatchewan RCMP Traffic Services and SHP were on Highway #20, just north of Craven, the evening of May 14, and on Highway #54 near Regina Beach on the evening of May 15.

As a result of this focused initiative:

·         One individual was arrested for Impaired Driving.

·         Two individuals were arrested for Driving While Prohibited.

·         Twenty individuals were issued administrative driver’s license suspensions, twelve of which were drug-related and eight were alcohol-related.

·         Twenty-three vehicles were impounded.

·         Seventy-one Approved Screening Device tests were administered.

“Impaired driving is a focus for the RCMP. We continue to work diligently to remove alcohol and drug-impaired drivers from behind the wheel, to keep our roads and communities safe,” says Sgt. Doug MacDougall, of Saskatchewan RCMP Traffic Services. “The public can help us achieve this goal. We encourage anyone who witnesses impaired driving or aggressive driving to report it to their local RCMP detachment, or to call 9-1-1.”

Saskatchewan RCMP thanks the SHP and SGI for their partnership in this initiative. SGI’s May Traffic Safety Spotlight focuses on catching those who choose to drive impaired.
